On the first day of Suicide Squad’s press tour in the UK, Jared Leto revealed that a lot of his Joker scenes were cut from the movie. With the news out there, other outlets followed up and asked Leto how he felt about it, and naturally, he didn’t seem pleased.
“Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut?” Leto asked IGN sarcastically. “There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” he said. “There was so much that we shot that’s not in the film”
Leto told NME that he’d love to star in his own Joker movie. And that he’d like to see more of his character in a Suicide Squad sequel.
“We shot so much footage. There are so many scenes that are not in the film,” Leto repeated to NME. “I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I didn’t know exactly what’s been cut out, but I do understand it’s an introduction to the Joker now. It’s a bit more of a supporting part than maybe it could have been if they used everything.”
It seems like everyone — from the fans to Jared Leto himself — are disappointed that The Joker didn’t have a bigger presence in Suicide Squad. Especially when it sounds like there’s so much footage on the cutting room floor that could’ve been include. Hopefully one day we get an answer as to why his role was reduced. For now, we’ll just have to hope those deleted scenes make it onto the Blu-ray!
