‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer thanks the fans for their support

It was a rough week for Suicide Squad director David Ayer and the cast, who had to talk about the bad reviews from critics at the UK premiere and during interviews. But despite all that negativity, fans flocked to the theater to check out the movie, making it the biggest August opening of all time.

Before the official numbers were released on Sunday, David Ayer took to Twitter to thank fans for all of their support.

That’s how I described the movie in my brief Twitter reactions right after I saw it. Suicide Squad isn’t trying to be anything other than a fun popcorn summer movie. You’re not going to get a deep Christopher Nolan superhero movie story here. It’s not even as complex as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s just 2 hours of fun entertainment. And that’s not a bad thing!
