Suicide Squad has crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office after just 13 days in theaters. Warner Bros. just made the announcement this afternoon, and says the exact total as of today is $509 million.
Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of worldwide distribution, said, “It is incredibly rewarding to see audiences around the world coming out in such a big way for ‘Suicide Squad.’ We have several major markets yet to open, and expect to continue seeing strong returns at the box office for the weeks to come.”
Suicide Squad will open in Germany this weekend and in Japan on September 10th. Unfortunately it looks like it will not get a release in China, who has banned the movie due to some of its content. That’ll definitely hurt its overall box office performance, since China is the 2nd biggest movie market. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made nearly $100 million in China.
Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and distribution, added, “We’re thrilled with the huge numbers on ‘Suicide Squad,’ and to be coming out of an already highly successful summer with such a big win for our slate. The film is in position for another terrific weekend as our overseas expansion continues.”
