Complex published a big feature on electronic music producer Skrillex, and he spoke about working on the “Purple Lamborghini” music video with Jared Leto as The Joker. Originally Warner Bros. wanted the music video to just feature clips from the movie, like the other Suicide Squad songs, but Skrillex wasn’t interested in that.
“[They] wanted to do a music video using me and footage [of Suicide Squad]. I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to do one of those.’ So I called Jared personally, and I really had to persuade him [to join],” he says. “He’s a really good friend of mine, but for him, giving me that Joker character is not an easy thing. He really went out of his way to be a part of that video. And getting Rick Ross in it—the timing was so last minute. Everything came together at the last minute. The director, the treatment, everything.”
You’ve heard about all the crazy gifts that Jared Leto gave to his Suicide Squad co-stars, and when he became the character again this summer for the music video, no one was safe. Not even his friend Skrillex!
Leto gave Skrillex “the biggest dildo” he had ever seen “and a bunch of weird shit in a box,” Skrillex told Complex.
