Did you know that Zack Snyder originally met with Jesse Eisenberg about playing Jimmy Olsen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Snyder thought it would be shocking to cast a popular actor in the role, just to have him get killed off suddenly. Olsen was the photographer who was in Africa with Lois Lane. His name isn’t mentioned in the theatrical cut, but in the Ultimate Edition he introduces himself to her, before being killed off minutes later. So while that Jimmy Olsen won’t be showing up in the DC Extended Universe, another one may have a small role…
A special screening of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut was held at the Hayden Orpheum Theatre in Sydney, Australia today. Marc McClure, who played Jimmy Olsen in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, was one of the special guests.
Steve Younis, editor-in-chief at Superman Homepage, was at the event in Sydney and asked McClure if he was ever approached to make a cameo in the recent Superman movies, or even the TV show Supergirl. McClure revealed that he has a recurring role in Powerless, the Office style NBC comedy that takes place in the DC Comics universe, but also teased some movie news too.
“He then remarked quite cryptically that he would be appearing in a movie to be released at the end of 2017,” Superman Homepage reports. A movie with Superman being released at the end of 2017 would certainly be Justice League. It’s scheduled for a November 17, 2017 release.
Are you a fan of these types of cameos? Is there a Batman actor you’d like to see show up in a DCEU movie down the road too? Let me know in the comments below.
