AT&T in advanced talks to acquire Time Warner

Update 10/21/16: The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that AT&T and Time Warner are in “advanced talks”, and that a deal could happen as early as this weekend.

AT&T, the American telecommunications company, is in early talks to acquire Time Warner, according to a report from Bloomberg. Time Warner, of course, is the parent company to some of your favorite brands, like Warner Bros. and DC Comics.

Bloomberg says that the two companies are currently in a relationship building phase, but that Time Warner chairman and chief executive officer Jeff Bewkes is a willing to sell the company if he gets an offer that he thinks is fair. You may remember that Time Warner rejected a $80 billion acquisition offer from Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox back in the summer of 2014.

Time Warner’s biggest assets include Warner Bros., DC Comics, HBO, Turner Broadcasting System, among others. AT&T is looking to add more content and original programming to their portfolio.
