After an issue full of in-fighting, Teen Titans turned its focus to out-fighting, and I thought the results were pretty good. Detective Comics isn’t hitting me quite the way the last arc did, but it’s still very good, and I’ve gotta tell you, when Jean went for his sword, I nerd-swooned pretty hard.
Batgirl’s “Beyond” wrapped up, Batman Beyond is ramping up, and Super Powers was a beyond-welcome return of the dynamic duo of Art Baltazar and Franco. Outside Gotham, Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire released Book One of A.D.—a new high-water mark for both creators. Look for more on that next week.
Batgirl #5

Right up front there’s a lot of cool action in this comic as Batgirl has to work out how to take down Teacher with her enhanced mental/physical abilities. Right up front I’ll say that I liked her solution. Right up front I’ll also say I’m not sure it works entirely.

Batman Beyond #2

An improvement over last month’s chapter, Batman Beyond manages to create some really nice moments that fans will love. In the same respect, there will be a number of moments that don’t sit well with them either. But when you reach the last page, the fun entertaining aspect wins over and will leave you looking forward to what’s next.

Detective Comics #945

If you’re like me and love these characters to the point that you’re happy with a story even if it’s just about them sitting around having dinner together, then you’re going to have a good time with this chapter. No, they don’t have dinner together, but it is just a bunch of talking with nothing really “happening”. It’s a story that focuses on ideas and points of view. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, it might not be your cup of tea, but it definitely had my attention.

Grayson Vol. 4: A Ghost in the Tomb

The highs are high and the lows are low. The goodwill earned by the two good issues and the one great issue goes a long way, and the arcs almost mirror each other in quality…

Harley Quinn #8

I definitely like these somewhat quieter moments between the big arcs, but I’m not a fan of Harley and Ivy, so my enjoyment of this particular adventure was tempered by that bias. Even so, there’s the usual funny (and occasionally perverse) humor to buoy the story along, and the subplot of Harley’s past with the Joker coming back to haunt her continues to develop.

Super Powers #1

…the tone is lighthearted and fun, and the designs are clean, simple, and just a touch whimsical. The closest thing I can equate it to is a Saturday morning cartoon from a bygone era, and the name of the series itself reinforces that.

Teen Titans #2

This is a pretty funny book, too. The previous volume of this title was often trying too hard and missing the mark completely, but for the most part, Percy is right on the money. The personalities I praised in the Rebirth one-shot are well-preserved…

Titans #5

A win is a win though…and Abnett and Booth should feel very happy with this issue. Now, if they can continue this quality and drop the repetitive exposition, I might grow to become excited to read Titans each month.
