Producer: Kim Basinger helped me write the 1989 ‘Batman’ ending

Earlier this week I wrote about producer Jon Peters, who got himself banned from the Man of Steel set by Christopher Nolan but still ended up making $50+ million from the movie. Peters was also a producer on Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, and he told The Hollywood Reporter some interesting details about the script.

Peters claimed that he had an affair with Batman star Kim Basinger, even though she was married at the time. “Kim had a husband who was abusive. And one day I grabbed him, and she connected with me because I protected her, and we became friends and ended up having a big affair,” he recalled.

“Michael Keaton had the eye for Kim Basinger. I remember he got mad at me when she and I hooked up. He felt rejected ’cause he was the star. He’s Batman. Yeah. I was a hairdresser who could talk to women. We lived together on the set. She helped me write the third act.”

Sam Hamm and Warren Skaaren are credited with writing the Batman screenplay, but apparently Peters, and Kim Basinger of all people, helped write its ending.
