Rapper/actor Common had a very small role in Suicide Squad. He played Monster T, a criminal who was doing business with the Joker. In his short scene, he met Joker and Harley at a club, pissed the Joker off, and then got shot in the head.
That wasn’t Common’s first time in the world of DC Comics movies though. He was actually cast as John Stewart/Green Lantern in the canceled George Miller movie Justice League Mortal about 10 years ago. So with news that Warner Bros. was rebooting Green Latern, IGN asked Common if he spoke to DC about the role.
“No, I haven’t spoken to DC. John Stewart, the character, is amazing. When I had the opportunity of potentially being John Stewart, when we were working, I learned how he was part of the Green Lantern Corps and all that he was doing. He was kind of community-driven so I felt like, ‘Oh, man, I love this character,'” said Common, who you may recall made a cameo as a criminal in last summer’s Suicide Squad movie.
“He used his mind to do a lot of things so I connected with him. I just love the character, but I don’t know, I haven’t talked to DC about it but, you know, hey! Yeah, I would love [to]. That would be an honor to play John Stewart.”
I would think that Common being in Suicide Squad ruins his chances of playing Green Lantern, but you never know. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
