The Rock congratulates Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on his big ‘Aquaman’ role

Earlier this week we learned that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was offered the role of Black Manta in Aquaman, and his friend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just welcomed him to the DC Films Universe!

“Congrats brotha. Couldn’t happen to a better dude. Welcome to the club,” Johnson wrote on Twitter this morning. Johnson, who will play Black Adam for DC Films, worked with Abdul-Mateen on his upcoming Baywatch movie. Who knows. Maybe they could be working together in a DC Comics movie next.

Abdul-Mateen is a new, up-and-coming actor, so I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t take the big Aquaman role. And based on The Rock’s tweet, he may have already accepted.

Aquaman starts shooting this spring, and will be released in October 2018.
