Last summer we learned that Joe Manganiello would play the villain known as Deathstroke in Ben Affleck’s Batman movie. In interviews since that announcement Manganiello has been happy and excited to talk about his upcoming role, but his tune has changed a bit in a recent interview.
Manganiello was a guest on Pittsburgh Today Live yesterday morning to promote his new Smurfs movie, but the topic of The Batman came up as well. When asked if he was playing Deathstroke, Manganiello paused and said “Umm. Maybe. We’ll see.” Check out his answer for yourself in the video below.
Manganiello’s uncertainty seems to add some weight to a report that came out earlier this week, which said that The Batman script was being rewritten from scratch. If true, it could mean that The Batman director Matt Reeves has a different story he wants to tell, and it may not include Deathstroke.
That would be a shame because Manganiello has been excited to chat about The Batman in all of his previous interviews, and even talked about all the hard preparation he’s already put in for the role. Hopefully things become more clear as Manganiello continues to promote Smurfs and gets asked more about The Batman.
