Artist Bernie Wrightson has passed away

Legendary horror artist Bernie Wrightson has passed away due to complications from brain surgery.  The artist, who is best known for his work in horror comics, has also contributed pencils to various Batman comics over the years.  His most notable Batman work is likely the miniseries Batman: The Cult, in which he collaborated with legendary writer Jim Starlin, but he has also provided dozens of covers and interiors in his six decade career.

His most lasting contribution, at least to superhero comics, is Swamp Thing, whom he co-created with Len Wein.  With Batman and Swamp Thing meeting up in Tom King and Mitch Gerad’s Batman #23, now is as good a time as any to appreciate this timeless creator’s phenomenal body of work.

Wrightson was 68.
