Upcoming Comics: May 31, 2017

It’s the fifth Wednesday of the month, so it’ll be a week of light reading! That’s ok though, because I’m sure most of us will end up using the money we save to go see Wonder Woman a few times, right? Or will that just be me?

Alright, on to business! For a collection of our opinions pertaining to last week’s releases, make sure you check out This Week In Comics: General Zod’s Grotesque Caboose. This week’s releases are listed in order of what I’m most excited to read, to what I’m least excited to read. For each title, I’ll include the official solicitation, the talent credits, a random comment (or rant), and the Batman News team member that will be reviewing each book. After I’ve overshared my opinions, you’ll find notes pertaining to other DC Comics titles/ delayed releases, as well as our Graphic Novel Watch. And finally, we want to hear from you! What titles are you picking up? What do you hope to see? Etc. So, without further ado…

May 31st

Wonder Woman Annual #1
The world of the Amazing Amazon expands in a collection of short stories that take Wonder Woman around the globe! In the days after “Year One,” Diana comes face-to-face with Superman and Batman for the first time, as illustrated by “Year One” artist Nicola Scott…and years later, Liam Sharp brings you the story of how their friendship has evolved!

Josh’s Stance: Batman is featured in one of these short stories, so we’re going to cover Wonder Woman this week! It also feels kind of fitting considering the film is coming out. I’m also willing to bet this will be one of the best issues released this week!

Teen Titans Annual #1
“THE LAZARUS CONTRACT” finale! The conclusion to our epic crossover is here, the consequences of which will be felt for years to come! What does the future hold for the Titans teams after this game-changing run-in with their greatest enemy? Find out here as we set the stage for the next era of Titans, Teen Titans and Deathstroke!

Josh’s Stance: Forgive me, but I keep getting hung up on the description of this story as being an “epic crossover.” Mainly because I feel it’s anything but epic.

Trinity Annual #1
You don’t betray Ra’s al Ghul and legendary sorceress Circe and just walk away. That’s what Lex Luthor is about to learn the hard way. Now, he has to unite with his former Justice League teammates if he wants to stay alive. Meanwhile, the Trinity fear this ordeal will push Lex back to the dark side.

Josh’s Stance: I’m intrigued by this unholy trinity, but I’m also cautious. I enjoyed the issue that brought these three together, however, I’m going to contain any excitement until more starts unfolding. I’m hopeful though.

Batman News Critic: Brian
