Break from the Bat: Read King, Walta, and Bellaire’s Vision on the cheap

Art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta and Jordie Bellaire

If, for some odd reason, you still haven’t read Batman writer Tom King’s astoundingly beautiful run on The Vision, there’s never been a better time to catch up. Right now, you can have the entire run for less than five bucks, as both trades are on sale for $2.20 a piece on Amazon/comiXology.

I’ve been meaning to write a full series review for some time, as I consider The Vision to be in a neck-and-neck race with The Omega Men for King’s best work. Back in the first Break from the Bat, I said:

He’s taken the skillful social and human commentary of The Omega Men and applied it to a scenario that feels far more familiar (and far more intimate).

That sums up the appeal of The Vision quite well. A dark, uneasy study of the intrusion of the exotic into the ordinary, it manages to stir more empathy for its would-be humans than most of us offer to the real thing. Check it out today—you won’t be sorry.
