It’s August, and you know what that means: Metal is almost upon us. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s upcoming miniseries promises to be a bonkers, melt-your-face-off good time of rock and roll and comic book craziness, with a tale that spans the entirety of the DCU… included corners we didn’t even know about.
With Batman uncovering more about the Multiverse than he probably should have in The Forge and The Casting, we’ve been given a look at the Dark Knights of the Dark Multiverse. First announced earlier in the summer, with the full designs for most of the characters revealed at SDCC, these invaders from the underbelly of the Multiverse are sure to make life difficult for our heroes.

Now, we’ve been given a look at the covers for two of the tie-in one-shots, Batman: The Red Death and Batman: The Murder Machine. Illustrated by Jason Fabok and colored by Dean White andBrad Anderson, respectively, these images showcase Batman analogues who seem to have harnessed the powers of some of the Dark Knight’s greatest allies. It’s no Batman riding a dinosaur, but it does have a robot Batman on top of a giant skull tank, so that’s a nice silver medal.
Per DC:
Invaders from the Dark Multiverse Attack;
BATMAN: THE RED DEATH and BATMAN: THE MURDER MACHINE are coming!
Evil versions of the Dark Knight are coming to terrorize Earth this fall! Seven one-shot comics that tie into the upcoming DARK NIGHTS: METAL event are on the horizon, each spotlighting a different, corrupted version of Batman spawned from the Dark Multiverse.How can the Justice League stop a horde of deadly beings that appear to be powerful, nightmare versions of themselves? Find out in these special tie-in issues, beginning September 20 with BATMAN: THE RED DEATH #1 by Joshua Williamson and Carmine Di Giandomenico followed by BATMAN: THE MURDER MACHINE #1 by Frank Tieri and Ricardo Federici on September 27.
All seven of the DARK NIGHTS: METAL one shots will feature covers by Jason Fabok and Brad Anderson. Stay tuned for more cover reveals of BATMAN: THE DROWNED, BATMAN: THE MERCILESS, BATMAN: THE DEVASTATOR, BATMAN: THE DAWNBREAKER, and THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS in the coming weeks!
There’s also this delightful tweet from Fabok that sheds some light on his inspiration:
Inks for THE RED DEATH and MURDER MACHINE…which is based off my time playing Thomas the Tank Engine with my son… #darkknightsmetal pic.twitter.com/vfSX6q8DTf
