Marlon Wayans on being cast as Robin in ‘Batman Returns’ and then cut out

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans was a guest on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon this past week. A fact that all Batman News readers may not know is that Tim Burton cast him to play Robin in Batman Returns. This is the first time I’ve heard Wayans himself explain exactly what went down.

Wayans, who mistakenly referred to the movie as Batman Forever, said that there were already too many characters in the movie, like The Penguin and Catwoman. Producers decided that the movie was too crowded and decided to cut out his Robin. Despite not getting to actually play the role, Wayans was still paid $100,000. And when the franchise went in a different direction with Joel Schumacher in Batman Forever, Wayans was recast and Chris O’Donnell landed the role.

Do you think Marlon Wayans would have made a good Robin to Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney’s Batman? Let me know in the comments section below.
