According to The Wrap, the upcoming Joker origin movie will feature a backstory that will be familiar to fans of “The Killing Joke” graphic novel. In the movie, which takes place in the 1980s, The Joker will be a failed comedian.
The Joker origin movie is being directed by The Hangover Trilogy’s Todd Phillips and produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese. Phillips is also writing the movie along with 8 Mile writer Scott Silver. The Wrap says production could start in the middle to end of this year, depending on how the script rewrites go. Joaquin Phoenix is currently in talks to star as The Joker, though he played coy when asked about it recently.
