‘New Gods’ movie coming from ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ director Ava DuVernay

Variety is reporting that A Wrinkle In Time director Ava DuVernay will direct New Gods as part of Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe. The hope is that this will kick off a new universe of superhero properties for Warner Bros. and DC to play with.

However, Deadline says that New Gods will not be connected to the current DCEU, so if and how the movie fits in is up in the air at the moment.

If you aren’t familiar, here’s a description of the New Gods comics from Variety:

The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet ruled by the Highfather, while Apokolips is a ruined dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits and is ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves gods, living outside of normal time and space in a realm known as the Fourth World.
