In 2008, The Dark Knight set the record for biggest Thursday night opening for a superhero movie with $30.6 million. It’s taken nearly ten years for another superhero movie to come along and dethrone it, but last night it finally happened.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War opened to $39 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It now sits above The Dark Knight (#2 with $30.6 million) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (#3 with $27.7 million).
Obviously ticket prices are more expensive today than they were in 2008 when The Dark Knight came out, but the record books don’t pay attention to that. The Dark Knight had a great run, besting even Marvel’s beloved Black Panther ($25.2 million).
I’d imagine people who saw Avengers: Infinity War will comment on it below, so beware of spoilers! And if you do comment, try to refrain from posting spoilers if you can.
