Last week at CinemaCon, Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie revealed that he and Henry Cavill discussed Man of Steel 2 ideas on the set. Now, in a new interview with Brazil’s CinePOP, McQuarrie flat out says he’d direct the movie if Cavill asked him to.
First, McQuarrie was asked if he’d ever direct a superhero movie. McQuarrie said he’d be open to it and has had discussions about it in the past (perhaps referring to the Green Lantern Corps. rumors). McQuarrie said what draws him to a movie more than the genre is the story and the actors. That’s when he brought up Henry Cavill, who he has already worked with on Mission: Impossible.
CinePOP followed up and asked if McQuarrie would direct Man of Steel 2 with star Henry Cavill. “If Henry asked me to, sure. Why not?,” McQuarrie replied. You can check out the full video interview above.
Unless Cavill is a producer on Man of Steel 2, he won’t have much say on who directs the movie. But I’m sure he could put in a good word for his fellow Mission: Impossible director. Hopefully we get a solid update on Cavill’s next solo Superman movie soon.
