First look at Black Manta’s helmet from ‘Aquaman’

Aquaman is featured on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly magazine. They just shared new looks at Aquaman, Mera, and Queen Atlanna, and now we have our first look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays the villain Black Manta. Entertainment Weekly says this is a “prototype”, so perhaps there will be another version in the movie too.

“He’s part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space,” director James Wan teased. Black Manta’s alter-ego in the movie is David Kane, which is different from his name in the comics, David Hyde.

As Batman News exclusively reported earlier this year, Black Manta is not a main villain. The main focus will be on Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Patrick Wilson’s Orm/Ocean Master.

“Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story but our main story is about Jason and Patrick,” Wan confirmed.

All this promotion means an Aquaman trailer should be right around the corner. It was reportedly coming this week, but if tomorrow comes and goes without it, Monday night during the MTV Movie Awards seems like a good bet.
