Amber Heard reflects on Zack Snyder pitching her Mera: He had me at “warrior queen”

As he did for a lot of the roles in the DC Extended Universe, Zack Snyder cast Amber Heard as Mera. After a brief scene in Justice League, she’ll be co-starring with Jason Momoa in Aquaman. In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Heard recalled what it was like when Snyder pitched her about the role.

“I’m allergic to being the damsel, the two-dimensional archetype of what women are often limited to in this industry, especially in the superhero world,” Heard explained. “Zack got me at ‘warrior queen’. He said, ‘You get a sword and a crown,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay.'”

As Batman News exclusively reported last February, Amber Heard’s Mera is very much a co-lead in Aquaman. She’s not just playing a love interest.

We’ll get to see new footage of Heard in action as Mera next month. Aquaman director James Wan confirmed that the trailer will debut at San Diego Comic-Con.
