Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cinematographer Larry Fong shared a new behind-the-scenes video of the making of the Superman vs. Doomsday fight today.
Fong detailed how simple it was to film the scene before handing it off to the visual effects team, who I’m sure had a much harder time with it. Henry Cavill can be seen acting as if heat vision was coming out of his eyes, and there was an actor in a motion capture suit playing Doomsday across from him. Fong said that they simply rolled the camera on a dolly around Cavill and they had a bright red light shining to simulate the heat vision.
It's surprising how simple this was (to film, not to finish). We dollied towards Henry as a bright red light was dialed up. Then the camera moved around and away from him. This provided the basic element for the VFX guys (led by DJ DesJardin) who took over from there and voilà! pic.twitter.com/iggyq3G44S

Then Twitter user @Stu_FX, who works at MPC Film, the company that brought the Superman vs. Doomsday scene to life, added a GIF of what it looked like when they took Fong’s footage and added in all the special effects.
