Earlier this year we learned that This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones was in talks to play The Wizard in Shazam, but those talks didn’t work out. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jones ran into a scheduling conflict and Guardians of the Galaxy star Djimon Hounsou was cast as The Wizard instead.
In the comics, The Wizard gives young Billy Batson the magical powers to transform himself into an adult superhero by yelling “Shazam!”. He also gave powers to Black Adam who will be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a future movie, not Shazam.
Perhaps we’ll get our first look at Hounsou as The Wizard next week at San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to a confirmed Aquaman trailer, it’s widely believed that we’ll get a trailer for Shazam as well.
