‘Aquaman’: First look at the Fisherman King, played by ‘Shazam’ star Djimon Hounsou

Entertainment Weekly just premiered a brand new photo from Aquaman. They also have a description of what’s going on in this scene:

In this scene, King Orm (Patrick Wilson, not shown) has gone to the Fisherman King (played by Djimon Hounsou, that guy with the trident — and more on that in a minute) to enlist his help to declare war on the ocean-polluting surface world. There’s also the Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran) and Princess (Sophia Forrest) on the left, and a royal guard on the right. Though you can’t tell in this shot, all of them have tails instead of legs.

If the name Djimon Hounsou sounds familiar, it’s because just earlier this week we learned that he would be playing The Wizard in Shazam. Obviously there’s no connection to the different characters, and with the amount of makeup he’s wearing in Aquaman I don’t anyone will even notice. Still, that’s a pretty fun fact!

According to Aquaman director James Wan, these underwater creatures were created with real actors and make-up from the waist up. The lower part of their body was created with CGI.

“After the fall of Atlantis, some of the kingdoms evolved and some devolved,” producer Peter Safran told EW. “This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers.”

This is the calm before the Aquaman storm that will be hitting next weekend. On Saturday, July 21, the first trailer will finally premiere at San Diego Comic-Con.
