Last month Birds of Prey star and producer Margot Robbie said that the movie would have a diverse cast, and now some new casting details have emerged that back up that claim.
According to Heroic Holloywood, Warner Bros. is looking to cast a biracial actress to play Black Canary in Birds of Prey. This wouldn’t be the first time Black Canary would be portrayed by a biracial actress either. Juliana Harkavy, who plays the character on the TV show Arrow, is of Dominican, Russian, African, Chinese, and Hungarian descent.
Heroic Hollywood goes on to say that Warner Bros. wants a Black Canary actress who has the ability to sing. This may explain why we just learned that Lady Gaga was offered a role in Birds of Prey, but she decided to turn it down.
In addition to Harley Quinn and Black Canary, Birds of Prey will feature Huntress, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya. Black Mask will be the villain in the movie.
