Batman prequel ‘Pennyworth’ to start filming later this year

Earlier this year we learned that Gotham creator Bruno Heller was making a new Batman prequel series. Pennyworth will explore Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne in 1960s London.

According to Production WeeklyPennyworth will begin filming in London on November 21st. Production will last for about seven months, and is expected to wrap around June 2019.

Pennyworth is completely separate from Gotham, and will not star Sean Pertwee as Alfred. We should be getting some casting news soon.

Pennyworth was picked up by the cable channel Epix, but a release date has not been set yet. Based on today’s report on when filming begins, it looks like it could debut in late 2019 or early 2020.
