Joaquin Phoenix starts shooting Joker in New York City next month, and he’s deep into preparing for the dark role. In a new interview with IndieWire to promote his new movie, The Sisters Brothers, Phoenix explained that he wished he didn’t have to take time away from Joker preparation to promote a different movie.
“It is ideal to be able to focus on one thing and not do press while you’re prepping for something else, which is not working out,” he said.
When asked about the pressure about playing such an iconic character like The Joker, Phoenix couldn’t care less about it or what people may think about his portrayal.
“I could care less,” he said. “I don’t really think that much about what people think. Who cares, who cares? My approach to every movie is the same. What I’m interested in is the filmmaker and the idea of the character.”
Joker hits theaters on October 4th, 2019.
