Update 08/29/18: Alec Baldwin drops out of ‘Joker’, will not play Thomas Wayne
We had heard that Thomas Wayne would play a big role in Joker, and with two weeks to go before filming begins we finally have some casting news.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Alec Baldwin will play Thomas Wayne in Joker. This version of Wayne is described as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump. Baldwin plays Trump on Saturday Night Live.
Collider’s Jeff Sneider adds that actor Viggo Mortensen passed on the role of Thomas Wayne, and that Wayne Manor will be featured in Joker.
With Baldwin being one of the last major characters cast for the movie, it’s looking like this:
- Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker
- Alec Baldwin as Thomas Wayne
- Robert De Niro as a talk show host
- Marc Maron as the talk show’s booking agent
- Frances Conroy as The Joker’s mom
- Zazie Beetz as The Joker’s friend
Joker will begin shooting in New York City the week of September 10th. It hits theaters on October 4, 2019.
