With Birds of Prey expected to shoot in January, the cast will be coming together soon. And that’s exactly what tonight’s news is about.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, and Janelle Monae are all in the running to play Black Canary. Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Cristin Milioti have tested for the role of Huntress. Justina Machado and Roberta Colindrez have auditioned to play Renee Montoya, a lesbian Gotham police detective.
Cassandra Cain will also appear in the movie as a 12 year old girl, and Warner Bros. is looking to cast an Asian actress.
The Hollywood Reporter says other actresses are also in the running, but doesn’t mention them by name. They say that Warner Bros. is looking to make casting decisions within two weeks.
Still no word on who will play Black Mask, the villain of the movie. Stay tuned to Batman News for more Birds of Prey news as we get closer to January.
