Aquaman just got even more competition.
Fox announced today that they will release a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 on December 21st. That’s the same day that Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters. The original, R-rated version of Deadpool 2 came out on May 18th.
Aquaman was already in a tough spot, surrounded by huge movies this Christmas season. I really think that Warner Bros. should consider pushing it back to 2019 if it wants any chance at Aquaman being a box office success.
- December 14: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
- December 19: Mary Poppins Returns
- December 21: Aquaman, Bumblebee, Deadpool 2
Remember, this is Aquaman. He’s a joke to the mainstream. Most people will be turned off by the title alone and when they have tons of other options, including a more family-friendly version of the beloved Deadpool franchise, I’m nervous about Aquaman.
What do you make of Fox releasing a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 the same day that Aquaman hits theaters? Do you think Warner Bros. should push the movie back to 2019 to give it a better shot at the box office? Let me know in the comments below.
