The Wrap is reporting that Rosie Perez has been cast as Renee Montoya, an openly gay Gotham City police detective, in Birds of Prey. Perez took to Twitter shortly after the announcement to confirm the news and express her excitement.

“Thank you so much! Very excited,” she said. “Love Margot Robbie’s work and [director] Cathy Yan is amazing… And just overwhelmed by and appreciate all the wonderful comments and well wishes.”

Last week, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was cast as Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. That leaves just two main roles that need to be filled. Cassandra Cain, a 12 year old Asian girl, and Black Mask, the villain of the movie. Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley are reportedly at the top of Warner Bros.’ list for that role.

Birds of Prey starts shooting early next year. It hits theaters on February 7, 2020.
