DC Universe’s Swamp Thing is Starting to Take Shape

The future of the DC Universe is starting to take shape. The recently announced Swamp Thing live-action show just cast its Madame Xanadu in The Walking Dead’s Jeryl Prescott. This news comes a month after Jennifer Beals was cast in an alleged pivotal role for the series.

For those unfamiliar with the Madame Xanadu character, she has a pretty awesome backstory. Originally debuting in in 1978 in Doorway to Nightmare #1. she is a centuries-old sorceress who finds herself drawn into a battle against supernatural forces to protect a small Louisiana town. At this point, we don’t know much about the show, including how significant Prescott’s role will be.

Jeryl Prescott - The Walking Dead

Swamp Thing was a character I read quite a lot of and really has some stellar story arcs. If you want to prepare yourself for the show, which will rightfully have a hard R rated tone, I recommend reading the 1971 original as well as the incredible stories by Alan Moore, Brian Vaughan, Mark Miller, and Scott Snyder. Just skip the 1982 Wes Craven movie.

How do you feel about a live-action Swamp Thing? I have reservations about how they pull off such a visually unique character with just a practical suit, but I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised. The pilot is set to debut sometime in 2019.
