Birds of Prey has found yet another member for its team. This time an actress has been cast as Cassandra Cain, a woman about as deadly as you could hope.
Variety is reporting that Ella Jay Basco has been cast as Cassandra Cain in the Birds of Prey movie. She will be joining the existing cast of Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya), and Ewan McGregor (Black Mask).
In the comics Cassandra is the daughter of David Cain and Lady Shiva. She spends her childhood deprived of human contact and speech to condition her for becoming an assassin. Later in life, she befriends Bruce Wayne and eventually becomes Batgirl. There’s no indication if that is the course her character will take in the DCEU, especially with a separate Batgirl film being developed currently at Warner Bros.
Going by her IMDB credits, Basco is indeed a newcomer to the world of acting with only a handful of television credits listed on her bio so far along with appearing in one short.
Birds of Prey hits theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
