Birds of Prey Start Date Update from Huntress Herself

We’ve known a general idea that Birds of Prey would begin filming in early 2019, but now Mary Elizabeth Winstead has narrowed it down a bit more for us. Expect the Birds to be before the cameras sometime in Jan. 2019. That month had been amongst the rumors, but we now have confirmation.

Speaking recently with Bionic Buzz, Winstead revealed the window for the start of production, as well as offered a few tidbits on the film. While they’re known to regular readers of this site, it’s always fun to hear confirmation from the actors themselves.

“It’s sort of a spinoff of Suicide Squad,” said Winstead. “It kind of follows Harley Quinn, which is Margot Robbie’s character from those films, and this sort of girl gang that she puts together. I play Huntress, and we’ve got Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor. It’s a really fun, fun cast. We haven’t started shooting yet, but we start shooting in January, and I can’t wait.”

Birds of Prey is going to be a busy set to say the least. Besides seeing Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, there will be several other characters along for the ride. Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be Black Canary. Rosie Perez will be playing Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain as well. And Ewan McGregor joined the cast as Gotham City villain Black Mask.

Birds of Prey hits theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
