Aquaman Targeting a Huge Pre-Christmas Box Office Result

The King of the Seven Seas may also find himself as the King of the Box Office when his movie hits theaters.

Advance tracking for the opening of Aquaman was released on Thursday, and things are looking good. Projections are currently putting the film on track for a $65M opening weekend, and an $80M total at the end of the five days through Christmas.

This is all good news is there will be some strong competition hitting theaters at the same time. Mary Poppins Returns releases two days earlier on Dec. 19. It is looking at an opening around $35M to $40M in its first five days, and $65M through Dec. 25.

The last of the big films in this release window is the new Transformers film, Bumblebee. It’s currently looking at a $25M to $30M three-day weekend, and $40M through Christmas.

For comparison’s sake, Justice League opened to $93.8M, while Wonder Woman opened at $103.25M. While Aquaman opening lower may not sound promising, December is a notoriously tricky month. And with Christmas falling on a Tuesday this year, it’s going to be an odd Christmas-to-New Year’s Day corridor that should see much higher than normal weekday receipts.

We’ll be watrching with great interest, but things certainly are looking good at the moment for Aquaman.
