Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is getting ready to start production soon. Director Cathy Yan is crewing up and she’s found her production designer. K.K. Barrett, whose credits include Her and Marie Antoinette, has joined the film.
HN Entertainment reports that Barrett was chosen for the job by Yan and Warner Bros. His other credits include films like Where the Wild Things Are and Lost in Translation. There are no comic book movie credits in Barrett’s filmography, but that should not be a hindrance.
Barrett will be charged with leading the art department to help Yan realize her vision. When department heads come from a world outside of superhero movies, that can often result in them bringing a fresh perspective to the table. Birds of Prey can enjoy a look and feel that stands out in a very crowded genre.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie in the title role. She is joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask. The film is set for release on February 7, 2020.
