Aquaman Sets Warner Bros. Record for Best Opening Day Ever in China

Aquaman turned DC’s second-best opening night into Warner Bros.’ best opening day ever in China! After starting with $1.19M in midnight preview screenings, the James Wan film hauled in a total of $24.6M on its first day in the Middle Kingdom. Aquaman now has a chance to top $80M in its opening weekend in the world’s second-largest movie market.

At this point, Aquaman is just about guaranteed a higher opening weekend in China than every other DC movie. The current champion in that respect is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with $57.2M. That’s according to Deadline, though Box Office Mojo lists BvS‘ China opening at $55.7M. Either way, Aquaman will beat it.

This is a tremendous start for Aquaman. If the film can sustain this momentum for the next two weeks, it should roll right into its domestic opening ready to beat all estimates and tracking. Time for Warner Bros. to speed up those sequel plans!
