Birds of Prey Adds Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz

HBO

Warner Bros. has added Chris Messina to the cast of Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). According to Deadline, Messina is set to play scarred serial killer Victor Zsasz for director Cathy Yan.

Messina will be the third actor to portray Zsasz in live-action. The role was first played by Tim Booth in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Anthony Carrigan brought the character to the small screen on Gotham.

As you’re undoubtedly aware, Victor Zsasz is a vicious killer who keeps a running total of his victims by scarring his skin. He’s a lower-tier Batman rogue, but still a fan favorite.

Zsasz is never really running things in the comics and he won’t need to in this film. Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask will be in charge. Zsasz will likely be in Black Mask’s employ and cause problems for Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell).

Messina is best known for his work on the Fox/Hulu comedy The Mindy Project. He’s also shown his dramatic chops in Sharp Objects and Argo.

Warner Bros. has also added Steven Williams (The Chi), Derek Wilson, Dana Lee (Dr. Ken), Francois Chau (The Expanse, The Tick), and Matthew Willig (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) in undisclosed roles.
