Christina Hodson Promises Surprises for Birds of Prey Movie

Riding high on the warm reception shown in Bumblebee reviews, interviews with scriptwriter Christina Hodson are naturally turning towards her next projects.

Hodson is now deeply entrenched in the DCEU, and first up is Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn), and she’s promising that the casting announcements haven’t spoiled everything to come. Speaking to ComicBookMovie recently, she assured fans big surprises are still on the way. “Our cast is awesome. Most of it has leaked, so you already know who’s playing who. I’m super excited about the cast, about the characters.” she said. “And it’s really fun and different and honestly, I think aside from the fact that, obviously, the studio would like me to not say anything, I think it’s fun not to say anything yet because that means there’s going to be whole bunch of fun little surprises for fans and for new people to the DC universe to discover.”

We’re not really sure what could be left as it seems we’ve gotten a ton of casting announcements. Of course, Margot Robbie is returning to play Harley Quinn, and she will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, while Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Black Canary. Rosie Perez will be playing Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain as well. And Ewan McGregor joined the cast as Gotham City villain Black Mask. Ali Wong has even joined the cast in an unknown role.

What could the surprises be? Are we talking easter eggs? Cameos? We’re all curious and want to know!

Birds of Prey begins filming in January for a  Feb. 7, 2020 release date.
