Batwoman Series Ordered to Pilot at The CW

The CW has finally moved ahead with a pilot order for a Batwoman series starring Ruby Rose.

Following her debut in the Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds, The CW has finally given a pilot order for the potential series. For those unfamiliar with the TV development cycle, this means that a pilot episode will be filmed, and from that sample the network will then decide whether or not to move forward with a series order. Should they choose to pass on it, then there is a good chance the pilot will never be seen except through leaks and the character would more than likely disappear.

The pilot will be overseen by Greg Berlanti who runs the Arrowverse and Riverdale for The CW, as well as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for Netflix. The pilot was written by Caroline Dries (Vampire Diaries), and David Nutter is set to direct. All three will serve as executive producers along with Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.

It seems that this more of a formality than anything else at this stage. With the Ruby Rose having already made her debut, and fans seeming to have been pretty happy with the performance, it seems like only a matter of time before the series happens. And with Batman seemingly being off-limits to the Arrowverse, this is probably the closest we can get.

We should hear by the upfronts in May if the series is picked up. If it is, expect it to debut in the fall.
