After a burst of casting in December, everything had gone silent on the Stargirl front over at DC Universe. Apparently, that was just to prepare us for a huge casting notice.
It seemed as though in December you couldn’t throw a rock without hitting a casting notice for Stargirl. Beyond Brec Bassinger getting the lead role, we then learned Joel McHale would be playing Starman, Brian Stapf would be suiting up as Wildcat, Lou Ferrigno Jr. is Hourman, and even the Injustice Society is getting in on it as well.
Now comes news that Luke Wilson will be playing Pat Dugan, aka Stripe.
The DC Universe description of the character follows:
Pat Dugan once went by the less-than-inspired superhero name of Stripesy, sidekick to a young hero known as the Star-Spangled-Kid and later Starman of the legendary Justice Society of America. Today, Pat has left his sidekick life behind him. But when his new step-daughter, Courtney Whitmore, discovers Pat’s secret past and takes on Starman’s legacy to become Stargirl, Pat is forced to come out of retirement and once again become a sidekick — to his step-daughter — this time piloting a 15-foot robot called Stripe.
With each announcement of what is happening over at Stargirl, we check the calendar to see if it’s April Fool’s Day. It feels like DC universe is going all out on this series. We certainly don’t expect all of these cast members to appear in every episode, and it could be they only appear once or twice, but it’s still a really impressive lineup.
No official premiere date has been announced for Stargirl as of yet, but a recent rumor pointed to Aug. 9.
