A new year brings new rumors for DC Films. Revenge of the Fans is reporting whispers for a few DC projects including The Batman, Birds of Prey, and Joker. This can, of course, be taken with a grain of salt, but it all sounds reasonable enough to be true.
Revenge of the Fans reports that Matt Reeves’ latest draft of The Batman increased the action and spectacle in the film. Reeves has spoken previously about wanting a noir detective story, but he and Warner Bros. are not going to make a Batman movie that feels lacking in the action department.
Reeves and the studio are taking all the time they need to make sure they perfect the script. Production, which was originally planned for this summer, has reportedly been moved to November of this year.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) starts production very soon. Chris Messina has already gone blonde for the role of Victor Zsasz. RotF is hearing that director Cathy Yan is going for cool, but not flashy when it comes to the characters costumes. That can work, although Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) isn’t known for subtlety.
Joker is said to be a heartbreaking, pitiful tragedy. That fits with the idea that Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a failed or perhaps screwed over comedian before he turns to crime. The movie is also rumored to have political undertones similar to V for Vendetta.
It’s probably going to be a while before we get any official updates on The Batman. We may not be far off, though, from seeing how accurate these rumors are for Birds of Prey and Joker.
