Aquaman Crosses the $1 Billion Mark at the Box Office

Aquaman has hit a new milestone and has become the first DCEU film to cross the $1 billion dollar mark at the global box office.

“Firstly, massive LOVE and THANK YOU to the fans and audiences around the world,” said director James Wan in a statement in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ll forever be indebted to Jason [Momoa] for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic superheroes ever, and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come.”

While the highest grossing film int he DCEU, it is third overall for DC films with The Dark Knight Rises being number one with $1.084B, and The Dark Knight being number two with $1.004B. Aquaman should easily take over the second position, but the number one slot may be a bit trickier only due to the age of the film at this point.

Where Aquaman has really shined is at the foreign box office. Domestically the film has taken in $287.86M, placing it in the seventh position for all DC films in U.S. releases, just behind Man of Steel. The foreign total sits at $732.4M.

We’ll be keeping an eye on Aquaman to see what it’s final box office total is, but has definitely been a fun and awesome ride so far.
