The Batman Rumored to Feature Another Villain Besides Penguin

DC Comics

All signs point to Oswald Cobblepot making his big screen return in The Batman. The Penguin, once rumored to be in Birds of Prey, has been connected to director Matt Reeves’ Bat-film for some time. Rumor has it, however, that Penguin won’t be the only antagonist in the movie.

Heroic Hollywood has heard that The Batman will feature another villain besides Cobblepot. There is no word on which Batman rogue will join Penguin in the film.

Penguin often operates behind the scenes to avoid being directly connected to his crimes. It would make a lot of sense for another villain to be involved, perhaps working for Penguin on the front lines. It’s also possible, though, that the other villain could be working on his or her own.

There are so many Batman villains to choose from, but we can rule out a few. Catwoman won’t be working with Penguin again unless Matt Reeves doesn’t mind “remake” comparisons to Batman Returns. A couple of notable members of The Dark Knight’s rogues gallery, Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina), have been reserved for Birds of Prey.

The Joker also feels unlikely. Joaquin Phoenix plays him in a standalone film this year and we recently saw the character in Suicide Squad. Reeves will probably opt to keep Joker out of his first Batman film, as Christopher Nolan did over a decade ago.

Penguin is a poor physical match for Batman, so it’s worth considering characters that could provide a little muscle.
