Warner Bros. is unlikely to have director Matt Reeves’ Batman movie ready to go by summer 2020, but that won’t be a problem. The studio still has a big summer slate, powered by Wonder Woman 1984 (June 5, 2020) and a Christopher Nolan movie. The Dark Knight Trilogy director’s next film will be in theaters July 17, 2020.
As usual, no details are known about Nolan’s next film. His movies are always events, though, so Warner Bros. can comfortably book that date and know everyone else is going to stay out of the way. Nolan has enjoyed plenty of success in similar July weekends for The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk.
Having a Christopher Nolan movie on the slate, along with Wonder Woman 1984, gives Warner Bros. the gift of time as Matt Reeves continues to work on his Batman script. Recent reports have had Reeves not starting production until late this year (at the earliest), meaning his film probably won’t hit theaters until 2021 or 2022.
