Patty Jenkins has an idea for what she wants to do in Wonder Woman 3 and that includes when the film will be set. Diana’s (Gal Gadot) first two films have taken her to World War I and the 1980s. By the time audiences see Wonder Woman 1984 next year, Jenkins believes Diana’s past will be well-covered.
“I’m not set, but I’m not dying to do another period piece,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter. I’m not pining to put it in the past again because then we’re because then where are you gonna go? You have to go forward, so it’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say and so where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.”
One thing Jenkins knows for sure is that right now, she’d rather maker another Wonder Woman than direct a team-up. “I sort of hope that we don’t do a Justice League movie for a little while,” she said. “I think that each of those characters are really great and I’m super excited to see each of their movies. I want to see Aquaman 2 and I want to see Flash.”
“You never know, “ she added when asked about the possibility of directing a JL sequel down the line. “I would never say never, but I think everybody should have a moment to shine right now.”
Recently, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich said the studio will focus on individual franchises over shared universes, so Jenkins is likely to get her wish.
