Over a year ago, it was reported that Superman would have a cameo in Shazam!. Social media interactions between Henry Cavill and Zachary Levi during production only fueled that fire.
All that excitement came to a halt last fall when The Hollywood Reporter said that talks between Henry Cavill and Warner Bros. over a Shazam! cameo broke down, and that the two parties were parting ways on the character completely.
Now, it appears that Warner Bros. still wants Superman in Shazam!, even without Henry Cavill. If true, spoilers follow, so read on if you choose…
According to We Got This Covered, the current cut of Shazam! that’s being shown to test audiences does include a Superman cameo. Towards the end of the movie, Shazam shows up at Freddy Freeman’s school to impress his friends. But he’s not alone. He has Superman with him. The catch? We only see his chest and the Superman symbol, not his face. A clear indication that it’s not Cavill in the costume.
This report was backed up by several “insiders” on Twitter, including Mario-F. Robles, who was first to break the news of a Superman cameo in Shazam! back in early 2018.
Since this report comes from a test screening, it’s all subject to change. Perhaps Warner Bros. and Cavill have been able to work out a deal and the current scene is just a placeholder until he’s able to shoot his quick cameo. Or, maybe Warner Bros. truly is done with Cavill and this is their way of keeping Superman alive in the DCEU without him.
We’ll have to wait until Shazam! hits theaters on April 5th to find out for sure, and to see if this scene even makes the final cut of the movie.
