Batwoman Pilot finds its Alice in Rachel Skarsten

The upcoming Batwoman pilot has found its lead villain. Rachel Skarsten (Reign, Lost Girl) will be taking on the role of Alice, the leader of the Lewis Carroll-inspired Wonderland Gang.

If Skarsten’s name sounds familiar, it should. This is actually her second foray into the streets of Gotham having previously played Dinah Lance on the 2002 TV series, Birds of Prey. This time, however, she will be on the other side of the law.

If Batwoman in the comics has her own Joker, it is most definitely Alice. In the series it is being set up that Alice wants to take advantage of the fact Batman is no longer in Gotham, but Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) definitely wants to keep the citizens of the city safe.

And, of course, the big question mark is if Alice will have the same secret as she did in the comics. There it is revealed she is Elizabeth Kane, Kate’s twin sister that was believed to have been killed in the same terrorist attack that killed their mother. Instead, she had indeed survived, but it broke her psychologically leading her to develop the Alice persona.

Currently, Batwoman is preparing to shoot its pilot episode, and from there it will be decided if it moves on to series. All of the indications so far is that it will happen, but we still have to wait for the official word. Pilot pickups are usually announced in late April or early May by the networks, so stay tuned.
