The first Shazam! box office forecast calls for another solid opening for DC Films. Box Office Pro has the film opening at $45M, though it could land anywhere between $40M and $60M.
It’s important to note that this long-range tracking is based on Box Office Pro’s models. It is not the widely-used industry tracking that is reported on by the trades.
Shazam! will not land on those tracking boards until it is three weeks from its April 5 release.
As long as Warner Bros. didn’t overspend on the film, an opening between $40M and $60M will be just fine. This is a smaller scale adventure about a lesser known property.
As we saw with Aquaman, these movies can find their audience over time if they’ve got the goods.
